The Flour Smith

How?

I'm licensed as a cottage food operator. This allows me to bake certain items out of my home kitchen. I don't have a storefront, which means that everything is pre-ordered and made just for you.

Where?

I live in Sunnyvale, CA and you can either come to me, or I offer delivery to Cupertino, Santa Clara, Mountain View, and Sunnyvale.

When?

I bake every Thursday and alternating Saturdays. I will also consider special orders over $75 if my schedule allows.

Please note that I have to close orders a bit before delivery, to give my yeast friends time to do their thing:

  • Orders for THURSDAY close Tuesday evening.
  • Orders for SATURDAY close Thursday evening.

You can also try saving this helpful calendar somewhere that you will always see it.

Who?

Huckelberry da Wry

Huckleberry likes intense conversation with friends, rye flour, keeping a stiff upper lip, and being kept at 60% hydration. He secretly likes you, but he will never tell you that himself.

Buford da Sour

Buford likes eating, reproducing, and burping. Buford is a simple but loyal friend who is happy as long as he has space to spread out and relax.

Jen (the Smith)

Jen is a perfectionistic control freak and engineer. She loves dogs whose heads are hanging out the windows of cars, children who have clearly dressed themselves, the color purple, both eating and baking pie, and taking everything out of kitchen cabinets, cleaning them out, and putting everything back inside.

She believes that if there is an intentional colony of something living in the fridge it deserves a name and respect.

Why?

Ready for my manifesto?

I believe that bread and pastry are at their best when fresh, local, and slightly inefficient and at their worst when they have been engineered to be efficient, mundane, and shelf-stable.

I feel that sometimes we've made the wrong decisions about food. Cut the wrong corners. So, I'm adding some corners back on. I'm taking things slow and seeing where I end up.

Also, I'm increasing my value to humanity in case of zombie apocalypse. :)
